Care through storytelling. A participative anthropological study based on lockdown stories during COVID-19 in France

L’article a pour objectif de questionner la méthodologie d’enquête du projet de recherche participatif « Récits Confinés », conduit de mars à mai 2020. Cette méthodologie engageait les répondant∙e∙s à mobiliser l’écriture par une mise en récit du vécu du confinement. Le projet a ainsi permis de documenter, « sur le vif », les adaptations individuelles, familiales et quotidiennes par le recueil de journaux personnels. Il a également mis en exergue l’amplification du travail domestique des participantes dans le foyer et le renforcement des inégalités de genre. Le témoignage des participantes permet de saisir les profils, les motivations et les appétences à produire un « récit de soi », à raconter le quotidien dans un temps de « crise ». Cette tâche introspective s’inscrit dans une volonté de témoignage et de soin pour soi-même mais aussi pour les autres.
The “Récits Confinés” (Lockdown Stories) participatory research project was conducted from March to May 2020. Its aim was to mobilize participants to write and share a narrative of their confinement experience. By collecting the participants diaries, the project made it possible to capture and document, “on the spot”, individual, family, and daily adaptations. It also revealed the intensification of female participants’ domestic work at home, and the deepening of gender inequalities. Their testimonies enable us to grasp the profiles, motivations, and skills for producing a “self-narrative”, recounting everyday life in a time of “crisis”. This introspective task of writing is part of a desire to bear witness to the work of care and self-care for oneself and also for others.
